  • A Salem man was charged last week with indecent exposure after police found him naked in the "touch free" stall of a car wash on Main Street.

Craig Tyree, 55, was arrested about 2 p.m. July 21 at the Spartan Car Wash in the 1700 block of West Main Street, according to police Lt. Mike Green.

The car wash, which sits between a branch of the Bank of Floyd and a Famous Anthony's restaurant, has multiple self-serve bays and two drive-through automatic washes. All of Spartan's stalls run parallel to Main and do not face the street.

Samantha Young, an employee at Famous Anthony's who was working that day, said that restaurant staff saw a man run into an automatic stall while a car was already in it being cleaned, and said he appeared to be clad only in some kind of shorts. Green said Tyree was naked when officers arrived on the scene.

City spokesman Mike Stevens said there was no sign that drugs or alcohol were a factor and said Tyree "just indicated he was taking a shower."

Young said police had been called to the parking lot about 11:30 a.m. that day for an earlier disturbance. Salem police said they are still investigating that report
