A West Seneca man who fell asleep in his recliner with his gun in his lap late Monday night accidentally shot himself in the hand and leg, according to West Seneca police.

“He was holding his weapon, fell asleep and woke up to a bang,” Assistant Police Chief Daniel Denz said. “Then he reached for the phone.”

Police said that the accidental shooting occurred on Clinton Street near Borden Road at about 11 p. m. and that the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The man, whose name was not released, was treated in Erie County Medical Center and released, police said.
