A woman is accused of stabbing her nieces while baby-sitting them at their home across the street from Martha Stewart's residence in an upscale New York community.
Police say the girls were found with multiple stab wounds on the kitchen floor of their Katonah home on Saturday.
The girls have been hospitalized in serious condition. They are 7 and 9 years old.
Their aunt, Lisa Turkki of East Syracuse, was arraigned on two counts of assault and is being held at a county jail. The name of her attorney was not on record early Monday.
The Journal News says she was watching the girls while the parents attended a concert down the street.
Katonah is a hamlet of Bedford. It's about 35 miles north of midtown Manhattan. read more...

Horrible~ ~WTF
Former "Melrose Place" actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer was charged in a drunk driving accident that killed a New Jersey woman, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Locane-Bovenizer, who played Sandy Louise Harling on "Melrose Place," was driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe on Sunday night when she slammed into the passenger side of a vehicle, instantly killing noted art historian Helene Seeman, 60, authorities said.
The driver, Seeman’s husband Fred, 60, was transported in a Medevac helicopter and remained incapacitated with serious injuries.
The couple were struck as they turned into their driveway in Princeton, N.J. Their youngest son, Curtis, 17, was with his mother when she died.
"My mother was incredible. She had a pure spirit, and her heart was always in the right place," the Seemans' oldest son Ford, 23, told the paper. "She wouldn't want me to harbor any resentment. I feel like a part of my soul is now missing."
Prior to the fatal crash, Locane-Bovenizer, 3 read more...

Listen to 911 call here..
Islamorada - Sheriff's dispatchers didn't know what the problem was when they got a frantic 911 call at 1:20 a.m. All the male caller could do is yell his address and tell them he was "crushed".
Sheriff's deputies rushed to the scene - a residence at the 88 mile marker of highway U.S. One. When they got inside, they found the man who'd apparently fallen asleep in his recliner. He was abruptly awakened when a the head of a water buffalo which had been hanging on the wall next to him fell onto his lap.
According to Deputy Don Dalton, the head was so heavy the man couldn't move, but his cell phone was close enough to his hand that he was able to call for help. He was taken to Mariner's Hospital for treatment of the injuries inflicted by the stuffed head. read more...

Surely that's more than a jigawatt and we can go back in time with that kind of power?
GENEVA -- Operators of the world's largest atom smasher on Friday ramped up their massive machine to three times the energy ever previously achieved, in the run-up to experiments probing the secrets of the universe.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, said beams of protons circulated at 3.5 trillion electron volts in both directions around the 17-mile tunnel housing the Large Hadron Collider under the Swiss-French border at Geneva.
The next major development is expected in a few days when CERN starts colliding the beams in a new round of research to examine the tiniest particles and forces within the atom in hopes of finding out more about how matter is made up.
The collider in December had already eclipsed the record of the next most powerful machine, the Tevatron at Fermilab outside Chicago, which has been running just shy of a trillion electron volts, or TeV.

Sorry, kids: Woman who insists on gardening topless near school is 52 - Denver News - The Latest Word

Boulder's Catharine Pierce, 52, doesn't like anything to get between her and her garden -- which is why yesterday afternoon she tended the flora and fauna in her front yard topless.
Pierce lives within a block of the Shining Mountain Waldorf School, a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade facility, which may explain why the Boulder Police Department started receiving complaints.
But callers who weren't feeling satisfaction from the sight of Pierce's breasts (or, reportedly, her yellow thong) were unhappy with the cops, too. Although a public nudity ordinance is before the Boulder City Council, Pierce was doing nothing illegal under current law. All officers could do is ask her to put on a shirt -- which she refused to do.
Boulder Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley has the details:
"We got a call around 1:40 p.m. or so yesterday from an individual who was upset that she was apparently outside with no shirt on," she says. "This is not a yard that's concealed. It's very visibl read more...

A woman dropped her gym bag on the tracks of a crowded Upper East Side subway station yesterday — then made the fatal decision to jump after it as screaming straphangers watched in horror, The New York Post reported.
The 48-year-old victim was crushed by a northbound No. 6 train barreling into the 77th Street Station below Lexington Avenue as she tried desperately to claw her way back to the platform.
"She had one choice to make and seconds to make it," said Alfonso McGruder, 55, of The Bronx, who witnessed the tragedy. "She didn't make the one that would have saved her life.
"She tried to go under the platform because the train was bearing down on her. Then she tried to climb onto the platform, but she couldn't do that. Then she just froze."
Rose Mankos lost her life trying to retrieve a nylon LeSportsac bag filled with exercise clothes, toiletries and her cellphone, sources said.
"People were yelling at the lady on the tracks when they saw the train coming," s read more...

Wow...Hell Hath no Fury....
OKLAHOMA CITY - Doctors are trying to save a metro man's life after he drank antifreeze.
He told authorities that his girlfriend tried to poison him.
For some people, antifreeze is a regular household product that mant use regularly to keep up maintenance on cars. However, consuming it can be deadly.
"Antifreeze is very dangerous. It's not only ethylene glycol but also may contain methanol, which are both very, very toxic solvents," said Lee McGoodwin, who is with Oklahoma Poison Control.
"These solvents get converted in the body to organic acids that do multi-organ damage," McGoodwin said.
In a police report, the man told officers "he thought his girlfriend put something in his coffee."
After he drank it, he fell asleep. When he woke up, his girlfriend had packed her belongings and left, according to the police report.
